On the banks of the Deûle |
Lambersart ( Dutch Landbertsrode ) is a French municipality with 27,649 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lille and the canton of Lambersart .
geography
Lambersart is located in the northern French agglomeration of Lille - Roubaix - Tourcoing and borders directly on the northern French metropolis of Lille, from which it is only separated by the canalised Deûle ( Canal de la Deûle ) and the Bois de Boulogne Park . The border with Belgium is about ten kilometers northwest of Lambersart.
Neighboring municipalities of Lambersart are Saint-André-lez-Lille in the northeast, Lille (with the districts of Canteleu and Lomme ) in the east, southeast and south, and Lompret and Verlinghem in the northwest.
Districts
Lambersart consists of 7 districts:
- Le Bourg-Mairie
- Le Canon d'Or-Champs de course
- Le Canteleu
- La Cessoie-Conquérants
- Le Nord-Ouest
- Le Pacot-Vandracq
- 7. District or Quartier des Muchaux (under construction)
coat of arms
Lambersart's coat of arms shows three red stripes on ermine fur, the first of which is decorated with 3, the second with 6 and the third in turn with 3 golden shells.
It is worth mentioning that the Lambersart coat of arms was actually that of the nearby town of La Madeleine , which was due to a transcription error in a register in 1867. From 1909 to 1926, both municipalities had the same coat of arms until La Madeleine changed his coat of arms in 1926.

Churches in Lambersart
The churches Saint-Calixte , Notre-Dame de Fatima , Saint-Sépulcre and the Parish Center Saint-Gérard form the Catholic parish of Sainte Trinité whose pastor is Jean-François Bordarier.
The parish of Sainte Trinité is part of the deanery Rives de la Deûle (the banks of the Deûle) , which belongs to the Archdiocese of Lille .
environment
The densely built-up and inhabited city should still be green and tree-covered and benefit from the proximity of the Bois de la Citadelle and the steep banks of the Deûle, which have been objects of ecological green space maintenance since the 2000s. While some parks, as well as some public and numerous private gardens, provide shelter for a wide variety of birds, the numbers of bees, butterflies, and many other insects have declined sharply since the 1960s and 1970s.
The French state waterway administration VNF , whose administration is partly based in Lambersart, had the steep banks of the heavily canalized Deûle remodeled and provided with natural lagoons (→ see also the picture on the left ), which was one of the first attempts of its kind in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region and in France in general.
As a result of this measure, the water circulates, parallel to the direction of flow of the canalised Deûle, through the lagoons of the bank area and is purified in the process. Water and swamp organisms find here an environment that protects them against ship surf (displacement waves ), which now replaces the original habitat that had been destroyed by artificial bank straightening and ship surf .

Urban planning
Lambersart has been a rich residential city since the 19th century, where not a few industrialists in the region built residences, often surrounded by gardens, preferably on the Deûle or in a somewhat rural setting. The urbanization of the suburbs of Lille as a result of population growth made fields and meadows disappear, but the town of Lambersart retained an architecture that is reminiscent of some of the seaside resorts in the region, such as B. Le Touquet or Malo-les-Bains .
As almost everywhere in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region , the red clinker bricks dominate here too (as in large parts of Belgium, the Netherlands, and northern and western Germany), but the style of the houses has its peculiarities. Another special feature of this town are the comparatively small streets known as "avenue" or "boulevard". Of particular note among the notable buildings are:
- The Château de la Cessoie
- The Château des Ormes
- The Ferme du Mont Garin
- The Villa Saint-Charles is located at 193 avenue de l'Hippodrome and was built in 1893 by the architect Victor Mollet for his uncle Charles Mollet. This neo-Flemish-style residence, which is the architectural highlight of this street, is typical of the eclecticism of architecture in the Lille region at the time of the Belle Époque . Since 2000, the building stands as a " monument historique " under monument protection .
- The Villa Saint-Georges is located at 218 avenue de l'Hippodrome and was built in 1897 by the architect Albert Baert . It has been under monument protection since 2001 as a “monument historique”.
- The Art Deco house , at 60 avenue Bailly-Ducroquet , by the architect Alphonse Stevens , has been listed as a "monument historique" since 2000.
- The Villa Sdez on avenue de l'Hippodrome No. 309 was built in 1932 by the architect Marcel Boudin and has been a listed building since 2001 as a "monument historique".
Parks
- Castel Saint-Gérard
- Parc de la Cessoye
- Parc des Charmettes

Transmission tower
The Lambersart station is weaker than that of Bondues , but has been supplying the residents of the Lille Métropole municipal association and also some peripheral areas with the digital terrestrial television program ( DVB-T ), which in France as TNT (télévision numérique terrestre ) is called. (At the end of 2006 63% of the French population were able to receive DVB-T, up to then 4 million DVB-T receivers had been sold in France. In the northern department, on the other hand, only a quarter of the population receives DVB-T because it is located near the border (on Belgium) has developed a kind of crush around the TV frequencies and there are difficulties in the cross-border negotiations on this matter.)

Museum and exhibition center
- The Colysée is a place dedicated to contemporary art. The building is formed by two triangles made of wood and glass, separated from each other by an imposing metal staircase. The Colysée was built on the banks of the Deûle on the occasion of the Lille 2004 cultural event (Lille was European Capital of Culture in 2004). This architectural craze is the only building out of a total of a dozen that was built in all its parts exclusively for Lille in 2004 . It is the work of Pierre-Louis Carlier , architect of the main facade of the Notre-Dame de la Treille cathedral in Lille . The building of the Colysées is characterized by linear forms and is integrated in a natural environment of 3,000 m², which consists of a garden (called «mosaïque» ) and a wetland biotope. The Colysée is now an exhibition and leisure facility that has housed a permanent exhibition ( Center d'interpétation de la Deûle ) since May 2005 .
