Henri Auguste Calixte César Serrur , also known as Calixte Serrur (born February 8, 1794 in Lambersart , † September 2, 1865 in Paris ) was a French history, portrait and genre painter.

Life

Serrur initially studied in Lille and was given the opportunity to continue his artistic training in Paris. He was a student of Jean-Baptiste Regnault and entered the École royale des beaux-arts . From 1819 he had exhibited several times in the Salon de Paris and received several awards. The themes and style are attributed to classicism painting .

He created several large format pictures with life-size figures. He also received orders to make copies of other painters for the Historical Museum in Versailles. For the Papal Palace in Avignon , he created portraits of the popes who formerly resided there.

Pictures can be found in the museums of Amiens, Bordeaux, Bourges, Cambrai, Douai, Lille, Rennes and Versailles. After his death, the auction house Hôtel Drouot organized an estate sale in 1866 with 64 work numbers and a biographical text by Simon Horsin-Déon .
