Pietralunga is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2049 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Perugia in Umbria .

geography

The municipality is located about 29 kilometers north of the regional and provincial capital Perugia in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in Zone E, 2364 GR / G.

The districts include Maritonda III (413  m ) and Salceto Lame (719 m).

The neighboring communities are Apecchio ( PU ), Cagli (PU), Città di Castello , Gubbio , Montone and Umbertide .

history

As numerous finds and preserved ruins from Roman antiquity show, the settlement is very old ( Forum Julii Concupiensium ). Pliny the Elder mentions the place in his Naturalis historia . The place was destroyed during the Migration Period and the settlement was only rebuilt between the 6th and 7th centuries (as Plebs Tuphiae ). Under the Lombards the name changed to Pratalonga . It was not until 1817 that the municipality received the name in its current version.

Pietralunga maintains partnerships with the Greek municipality of Falanna in Thessaly (since 1989) and with the French city of Pérenchies in the north department (since 1998).
