Scheggia e Pascelupo is an Italian commune with 1347 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Perugia in the Umbria region .

The location of Scheggia e Pascelupo in the province of Perugia

The community extends over around 64  km² . The municipality is located about 40 kilometers northeast of the provincial and regional capital Perugia on the border with the Marche region in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in Zone E, 2 416 GR / G. The place is close to the mountains Monte Catria ( 1701  m slm ) and Monte Cucco ( 1566  m slm ) on the historic Via Flaminia and today's Strada Statale 3 Via Flaminia and is part of the Comunità montana dell'Alto Chiascio . The main town and administrative seat is Scheggia with approx. 700 inhabitants. The district of Pascelupo , which lies at 529  m slm and had 12 inhabitants in 2001, also gives its name . The largest district is Isola Fossara ( 440  m slm , 152 inhabitants).

The districts (Frazioni) include Aiale ( 684  m slm ), Belvedere ( 632  m slm ), Buotano ( 540  m slm ), Campitello ( 650  m slm ), Casacce , Casequattro , Coldipeccio ( 604  m slm ), Fossarave , Isola Fossara ( 440  m slm ), Montebollo ( 561  m slm ), Monte Fiume , Pascelupo , Perticano ( 400  m slm , belongs to Sassoferrato south and east of the river Rio Freddo), Pezza ( 710  m slm ), Ponte Calcara ( 565  m slm ) , Serra ( 592  m slm ) and Valdorbia .

The neighboring municipalities are Cantiano ( PU ), Costacciaro , Frontone (PU), Gubbio , Sassoferrato ( AN ) and Serra Sant'Abbondio (PU).

history

In the Tabula Peutingeriana , today's place Scheggia was mentioned as ad Ensem . The place was almost completely destroyed in the Gothic War. In 927 the former Roman station Statio Romana Ad Ensem (also Mutatio ad Haesis ) was expanded into a castle. Frederick I placed the place under Gubbio in 1155 . With Gubbio, Scheggia first came to the Montefeltro family in 1384 , who were close to the Counts from Urbino . From 1508 to 1631, the family who ruled Della Rovere the area, followed by her and Scheggia part of the Papal States .

The previously independent communities Scheggia and Pascelupo were merged in 1878. At that time, around 2700 people lived in the village. By 1921 there was a population increase to approx. 3800 inhabitants, after which the number of inhabitants fell steadily to approx. 1400 inhabitants in 2010.

  • Abbazia di Sant'Emiliano in Congiuntoli , abbey on Mount Aguzzo and at the confluence of the rivers Rio Freddo and Sentino . The associated church was built in 1286.
