Campitello (also Campitello di Scheggia ) is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of Scheggia e Pascelupo in the province of Perugia , Umbria region in Italy .

geography

The place is located about two kilometers east of the main town Scheggia, about five kilometers west of Pascelupo and about 40 kilometers northeast of the provincial and regional capital Perugia . The place is at 650  m slm and had about 64 inhabitants in 2001. In 2011 there were 46 residents. Campitello is located between the mountains Monte Calvario (949 m) and Poggio delle Serre (934 m), the closest place is Ponte Calcara , also a district of Scheggia e Pascelupo.

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta
  • Santa Maria Assunta , church in the town center, first mentioned in 1181 in a document from Pope Alexander III. mentioned as curtem Capitelli cum ecclesia and assigned to the church of San Secondo in Gubbio . In the 12th and 13th centuries the church belonged to the Knights Templar . On May 10, 1824, the church was elevated to a parochial church by Vincenzo Massi , Bishop of Gubbio . The facade was restored from 1901 to 1902, the current campanile was built from 1902 to 1904. In 1915 the entire church was restored and rededicated on September 25th by the Bishop of Gubbio, Giovanni Nasalli Rocca di Corneliano . Further work on the church took place from 1985 to 1995. Inside, in the two niches, it contains the wall paintings Sant'Ubaldo and Sant'Attanasio and two memorial plaques for the fallen of the First World War , which were created in 1920 and restored in 2015.
