Montone is an Italian municipality with 1614 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Perugia in Umbria and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy). The municipality is located about 28 kilometers north-northwest of Perugia .

history

The settlement probably originated in the 10th century. The castle was built in 1121. The Braccio da Montone family ruled here from 1414 until the Vitelli family controlled the community from the 16th century.

The Strada Statale 3bis Tiberina ( E45 ) leads from Terni to Ravenna through the southern part of the municipality .
