Denmark

In Denmark the E 45 is an important north-south motorway , which runs from Frederikshavn over 357 km to the border with Germany at Padborg. It is part of the Danish Motorways (Danish Motorvej ).

The route goes through Frederikshavn (ferry port) - Aalborg - Randers - Aarhus - Vejle - Kolding - Aabenraa - Padborg (border with Germany ).

Germany

In Germany, the E 45 is largely routed over the federal motorway 7 (Flensburg to Würzburg). Then it follows various shorter motorway sections to the Austrian border near Kiefersfelden / Kufstein.

In Italy the E 45 is a motorway (Autostrada) or, for short stretches, a state road . From Modena to Naples it is partly identical to the A1, then it becomes the A3 or state road in Sicily . With a total length of 754 km, the A1 is the longest motorway in Italy and requires a toll ( pedaggio ). 571 km of which are used as European route 45. Two sections, namely from Modena to Bologna and from Orte to the beginning of the Roman motorway slip road on the A1, are shared by the E 45 with the E 35, which is unique, since the final 5 indicates the highest category of roads in north-south direction .

A description of individual road sections follows:

Modena - Bologna section

The Brenner motorway is connected to the north of Modena . The Bologna bypass motorway and the A 14 also branch off in Bologna . Therefore, the Modena - Bologna section is the busiest in all of Italy, which is why the construction of a fourth lane became necessary.

Section Bologna - Locations

This section, which is also known as the “ Apennine section” ( tratto appenninico ), crosses the Tosco-Emiliano-Apennine and therefore has many bridges and tunnels on its course . From Cesena via Perugia to Orte, the route follows the SS3bis, a four-lane, toll-free superstrada. This section is one of the few alternatives to the very busy E 35 (Autostrada A1) Bologna - Florence for north-south long-distance traffic in Italy. The E 55 is crossed at Cesena. Here the E 45 changes from the A 14 from Bologna to the SS3bis heading south and the E 55 from the SS3bis from Ravenna to the A 14 towards Ancona. So both terms swap here.

Places section - Rome

From Orte ( Latium ), the E 45 follows the course of the A1 motorway again, which is now three lanes. The A1 branches off near the village of Fiano Romano : One branch leads east (Diramazione Roma Nord / Rome Nord junction) to the ring road around Rome ( A 90 / GRA , Grande Raccordo Anulare ), while the other branch (Bretella / now the actual "Autostrada del Sole") leads southwest past the capital towards Naples .

Section Rome - Naples

In San Cesareo , a place south of Rome, the two branches reunite to form the A 1. This section, the u. a. past the cities of Frosinone and Caserta , is characterized by a straight route. Until 1988 it was called A 2 , because at that time it was not yet directly connected to the rest of the A 1. In the north of Naples, the A1 finally changes into the A3 .

Sections of the A 3 and the A 2

The A 3 and A 2 motorways are 495 km long and most of them are toll-free. Repair work often has to be carried out, which means that only one lane can be used on large parts of the A3 and A2. In addition, the maximum speed in the construction site areas is on z. T. 60 km / h reduced.

A3:

  • Naples - Pompeii . The section was released on June 22, 1929.
  • Pompeii - Salerno - The section was opened on July 16, 1961.

A2:

The sections in Sicily - A 18

The fully built Messina – Catania section of the A 18 is subject to a toll. The next section to Augusta is called Autostrada Catania-Siracusa and is 25.2 km long. This is followed by a 24 km long section as the state road SS 114 to Syracuse. The section Syracuse - Gela between Syracuse and Rosolini (district of Syracuse) is already open to traffic over a length of 41.5 km. It is still free to use. The stretch between Rosolini and Ragusa (44.5 km) is currently under construction. The remaining sections are to be built by 2014.

Junctions: The A 20 motorway leads west from Messina to the regional capital of Palermo . It is 181 km long and partly toll roads. A section of around 20 km in length, which runs directly past the city limits of Messina, can be driven free of charge.

From Catania, the A 19 also runs westwards towards Palermo.

The European route 45 begins or ends after the A 18 (still as a state road) on the south coast of Sicily near Gela.
