The European route E 90 is a traffic route that stretches from Lisbon ( Portugal ) to the Turkish - Iraqi border in the east. Similar to the E 80 , it crosses three time zones.

The E 90 runs through several European countries and also includes the following sea routes: Barcelona ( Spain ) - Mazara del Vallo ( Italy ); Messina (Italy) to Reggio di Calabria (Italy); Brindisi (Italy) to Igoumenitsa ( Greece ) and Eceabat ( Turkey ) to Canakkale (Turkey) and from there to the Turkish-Iraqi border.

From Barcelona, ​​the E90 leads across the Mediterranean to Sicily . There is no direct ferry connection that follows the route from Barcelona to Mazara de Vallo. To get from Mazara de Vallo to Barcelona or vice versa, you would have to use the following ferry connections:

  2. from Genoa to Palermo
  3. from Palermo on to Mazara de Vallo.

The E 90 runs about 900 km through Italy. First the route runs on the northern edge of Sicily, then from the tip of the boot of Italy over the upper part of the heel. From there the Adriatic Sea is crossed to Greece .

In Sicily there is often no signage with the European road symbol; usually only the corresponding motorway sign is found. The European route is therefore only referred to as Autostrada or with the respective number (A29, A19, A20).
