The European route 853 leads from Ioannina in the Epirus region ( Greece ) to the Albanian border.

The E 853 begins in the center of Ioannina and initially shares the route with the E90 on the Ethniki Odos 20 . The road runs north to Kalpaki . There the E 853 leaves the course of the Ethniki Odos and then turns west on the Ethniki Odos 22 and follows it to the Greek-Albanian border at Delvinaki (GR) / Kakavija (AL). The route of the E 853 has so far been clarified to the Albanian border. Since Albania in 2006 the so-called European Route agreement ( European Agreement on Main International Traffic Arteries joined (EGR)), will only be further defined in the future of course. Presumably the E 853 then continues on the Rruga shtetërore SH4 to the E 852 . Together with the E 762 , they then form the direct north-south route through Albania.
