The European route 801 (E 801) is a class B connection. It extends from Coimbra , Portugal to Verín , Spain , just beyond the border with Portugal. It crosses the Portuguese regions of Centro and Norte and a piece of the Spanish region of Galicia .

The E 801 begins northwest of Coimbra at the Coimbra-Norte motorway junction. European routes 1 and 80 run on the north-south axis . The E 801 leads first on the Itinerário principal in an easterly direction, but in the north of Coimbra, on to Penacova on the Mondego river . Here the E 801 turns north, passes Tondela and then reaches Viseu , where it crosses the E 80 again. North of Lamego , the E 801 crosses the Duoro . Further north on the A24, the E 82 crosses the European road 801 at Vila Real. Even further north, the E 801 crosses the E 805 at Vila Pouca de Aguiar . You leave the A24 north of Chaves and reach the Portuguese-Spanish border. After the border, the E 801 follows the course of the A75 to the Verín motorway junction with the A52 .

In the future, the E 801 in Portugal will be completely designated as the A24 .
