The European route 66 is a European route that leads from west to east. Beginning in Franzensfeste in Italy , it leads through Austria to the Hungarian border and ends in Székesfehérvár in Hungary. It is 651 km long.
Route
The E 66 begins in Franzensfeste near Brixen , where the A 22 Brenner motorway connects to the European route 45 via the Vahrn / Brixen motorway exit . It leads on the route of the SS 49 Pustertalstraße to the east via Bruneck and Toblach ( SS 51 ) to the Italian-Austrian border.
From the border, the E 66 follows the Drautal Straße B 100 via Sillian , Lienz in East Tyrol and further in Carinthia via Oberdrauburg to Lake Millstatt . From the Spittal / Millstättersee junction , the Europastraße follows the Tauernautobahn (A 10) in a south-east direction to the Villach junction . From this junction, the road follows the Süd Autobahn (A 2) along the Wörthersee via Klagenfurt and Graz , the Europastraße continues to the Ilz - Fürstenfeld exit , where it leaves the Süd Autobahn to the east. Along the Fürstenfelder Straße (B 319) the route leads via Fürstenfeld and further along the Gleisdorfer Straße (B 65) via Heiligenkreuz in the Lafnitztal to the Austrian-Hungarian border. From 2023 this section is to be replaced by the Fürstenfeld expressway (S 7).
From the border, the route runs along the 8-as főút (State Road 8) via Körmend and Veszprém to Székesfehérvár.
In 2012 Hungary proposed an extension of the E 66 from Székesfehérvár via Dunaújváros and Kecskemét to Szolnok to European route 60 .
