The Gleisdorfer Straße (B 65) is a state road B in Styria and Burgenland . It leads over a length of 60 km in two sections from Graz to Heiligenkreuz in the Lafnitztal .

course

The first section leads from the Styrian capital Graz through the Eastern Styrian hill country via Gleisdorf to the Ilz / Fürstenfeld junction on the south autobahn  (A 2). The section between Graz and Gleisdorf is after the same district Graz Ries as Riesstraße (commonly known as the ream hereinafter).

The further 13 km long route to the Styrian / Burgenland state border near Fürstenfeld was renamed Fürstenfelder Straße  (B 319). This section is part of the Europastraße 66  (E 66) and is to be replaced in the future by the Fürstenfelder Schnellstraße  (S 7), which is currently being planned.

On the Burgenland side, the road continues as the B 65 to the Hungarian border at Heiligenkreuz .

history

The Strata hungarica (Hungarian Road) led from Graz to Hungary. It was mainly used to transport goods. Since April 1, 1839, a stagecoach has been traveling between Graz and Fürstenfeld twice a week . In 1847 there were toll stations in Gleisdorf, Ilz, Feistritzbrücke and Fürstenfeld on the Styrian section of the route , which brought in around 5500 guilders for the state treasury. On March 20, 1855, Emperor Franz Joseph approved the construction of a new, less steep road from the mountain range of the Eastern Styrian hill country down to the Rabnitz Bridge , which should cost 95,000 guilders.

The Ungar-Strasse between Graz and the state border is one of the former imperial roads that were taken over as federal roads in 1921. The Fürstenfelderstraße in Burgenland (between Furstenfeld and Holy Cross) was also included in the Austrian federal road network 1,923th In the course of job creation measures, the section between Rudersdorf and Dobersdorf was expanded into a modern road from 1937. Until 1938, Fürstenfelder Straße was designated as the B 22; after the annexation of Austria , Fürstenfelder Straße was part of Reichsstraße  333 until 1945 .

According to the Federal Roads Act of 1971, the Fürstenfelder Schnellstraße S 7 was to replace the Fürstenfelder Straße between Ilz and Heiligenkreuz. However, this expressway has not yet been built, so on April 1, 1983 the federal highway 65 was extended again to Heiligenkreuz.
