history

The Salzburger Straße (in Styria) or Steierer Straße (in Salzburg) between Bischofshofen and Liezen is one of the federal highways established by the federal law of July 8, 1921. Until 1938 this federal road was designated as the B 61, after the connection of Austria it was run as part of the Reichsstraße  318 until 1945 . Since 1948 this federal road has been continuously referred to as Ennstal Straße . On January 1, 1949, Ennstal Strasse was extended to Hieflau.

According to the Federal Roads Act of 1971, the Ennstal Schnellstraße S 8 was to replace the Ennstal Straße between Altenmarkt and Liezen, while the remaining section between Liezen and Hieflau was renamed Gesäuse Straße B 112 . However, this expressway was not built, so on April 1, 1983 a new federal highway 146 was set up between Altenmarkt and Trautenfels, where the shortened Ennstal expressway was to end.

From April 1, 1986, the entire route between Altenmarkt and Hieflau was called Ennstal Straße ( B 146 ). Since August 19, 1999, the section between Liezen and Hieflau has been known as Gesäuse Straße B 146, the section between Altenmarkt and Liezen as Ennstal Straße B 320.
