Lower Austria

The Hornerstraße B4 is a country road B and former federal highway in Lower Austria and part of European route E49 . It runs over a length of 74 kilometers from Stockerau in the Weinviertel via Horn to Geras in the Waldviertel .

In connection with the Donauufer Autobahn (A22) it represents the most important connection between Vienna and the Waldviertel. A prominent point along the route is the Manhartsberg near Maissau . In the past, this was particularly feared by drivers and truck drivers, especially in winter, as a leader was often necessary here or it was inevitable to put on snow chains.

The section between Mödring and Pernegg is just as striking, covering a length of 6.7 km with 189 meters of altitude. The average 28 per thousand steep section of the Horner Straße meanders along the Mödringbach (Taffa) and Aumühlbach (Taffa) through the mountainous-looking Pernegger Graben.

The route between Stockerau and Horn represents part of the old Reichsstraße from Vienna to Prague , the most famous user of which was Mozart on the trip to Prague . Today the European route 49 runs over this section , which continues from Horn over the Waldviertler Strasse B2 towards the Czech Republic.

A so-called TOTSO intersection is located northeast of Horn . If you want to continue coming from Horn in the direction of Geras on the B4 you have to turn right. If you continue straight ahead you will reach Irnfritz via the L8019 .

At the end of June 2011, a driving ban for trucks over 3.5 tons was issued on the Stockerau - Horn route.

history

In 1834 the Prager Reichsstraße had nine toll stations in Schwarzbach, Schrems, Schwarzenau, Stegersbach, Göpfritz, Horn (at the two city gates), Maissau and Weikersdorf, which brought in around 16,000 guilders for the state treasury .

The Horner Strasse between Stockerau and the state border near Nagelberg was one of the former imperial roads that were taken over as federal roads in 1921 . Until 1938 Horner Straße was designated as B 3, after the connection of Austria , Horner Straße was part of Reichsstraße 170 until 1945 .

The Horn WOHNEN in DROSENDORF road is one of the streets in Lower Austria, which have been declared by the Federal Law of 2 June 1954 federal roads. In the federal budget of 1954, 15,000,000 schillings were made available for the expansion of these roads.

According to the Federal Roads Act of 1971, the Waldviertel expressway S 3 was to replace Horner Strasse between Horn and Nagelberg. That is why Horner Straße ( B 4 ) has been leading to Geras since 1972 , while the former section of Horner Straße between Horn and Nagelberg has been part of Waldviertler Straße ( B 2 ) since 1999 .

B4  Like the other former federal highways, Horner Strasse was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße.
