The Weiz road ( B 72 ) is a country road in Austria . It has a length of 88 km and leads from the Styrian capital Graz through the edge mountains east of the Mur to Krieglach in the valley of the Mürz in the north of Styria.

From Graz the road first leads through the southern Graz mountainous region to Weiz and further into the Feistritz valley . It follows this and the parallel Feistritztalbahn until shortly before Ratten . Here it leaves its previous northerly direction and turns to the northwest to cross the Fischbacher Alps at the Alpl . Finally, Weizer Straße reaches Krieglach .

history

The street from Maria-Trost near Graz via Albersdorf, Gschwendt, Weiz , Anger, Birkfeld , Fischbach and Stanz to the train station in Kindberg was assigned to the first class district streets by the law of October 3, 1868. By a resolution of the Styrian Landtag of May 15, 1899, the road from Birkfeld via the " small Pfaffen " to Jauern on Vienna-Trieste Reichsstrasse was also upgraded to a district road, 1st class. Since April 1, 1938, the district roads of the 1st order in Styria have been run as state roads.

The Weiz Street belonged since 1 January 1973 to the network of federal roads in Austria . and was transferred to state administration with this network on April 1, 2002.

B72	Like the other former federal highways, Weizer Strasse was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße.
