The bear crossing, looking west

The Liechtensteiner Straße starts in the center of the Vorarlberg district capital Feldkirch at the so-called “Bärenkreuzung”, a traffic junction where the L 191 meets the Vorarlberger Straße (L 190) and the Bangser Straße (L 53). From the intersection, the Liechtensteiner Straße leads westwards through a densely built-up area along the former city walls. In the street network of the city of Feldkirch, the street in this area is called Hirschgraben .

Passing parts of the former city fortifications, the road reaches the Ill after about 500 meters , which is crossed by a bridge at the level of the regional court . From this bridge on, the street bears the local name Schillerstraße .

At about the level of the PH Vorarlberg , the old Liechtensteiner Straße branches off to the north into the new street layout. From here on, the name of the street in the Feldkircher street network is Liechtensteiner Straße (this continues internally over the old street course north of the current route). After 3.2 kilometers, the road in the Tisis district of Feldkirch reaches the border crossing to the Principality of Liechtenstein, where it turns into Hauptstrasse 16.

history

The Liechtensteiner Strasse was called Reichsstrasse XIV in the Austro-Hungarian Empire .

The Liechtenstein road belongs to the former imperial roads that were taken in 1921 as federal highways. After the " Anschluss of Austria " it was called Reichsstraße  31a.

Originally the name of Liechtensteiner Straße was L 191, but with the planning of the Feldkirch city tunnel , the existing road layout was assigned the new name L 191a by the state road administration. The original designation L 191 was transferred to the planned and not yet realized section of road that is to lead from the roundabout in the city tunnel under the name Tisner Straße to the existing border crossing at Feldkirch-Tisis.

L191a
Like the other former federal highways, Liechtensteiner Strasse was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002 it has been under state administration. In the other federal states, the conventional street name is continued with B - in Vorarlberg, however, the streets taken over by the federal government have an L in the name like all other Vorarlberg regional streets .
