The Waidhofen road (B 5) is a 42 km long main road in Lower Austria . It leads from Allwangspitz via Waidhofen an der Thaya and Heidenreichstein to the state border at Grametten .
history

The Waidhofen road was completed in 1834 and had five toll stations in Waidhofen (at the two city gates), in Heidenreichstein (the market and the castle) and in Illmanns which would bring some 2,200 guilders the Treasury. In 1856, Waidhofener Strasse generated annual income of around 3,000 guilders for the state treasury.
The Waidhofen road belongs to the former imperial roads that were taken in 1921 as federal highways. Until 1938, Waidhofener Straße was designated as B 4, after the connection with Austria , Waidhofener Straße was part of Reichsstraße 342 until 1945 .
