The Weinviertler Strasse B303 in connection with the Weinviertler Schnellstrasse S3 and the Donauufer Autobahn A22 represents an important connection from Vienna via the western Weinviertel to the Czech border near Znojmo .

The former route from Stockerau Nord to Hollabrunn Süd was expanded until July 2009 to be free of intersections and alternately to 2 + 1 lanes with a rigid central division with breakdown bays and partial noise protection. On August 1, 2009, this section of the previous B 303 was converted to the S3 and integrated into the ASFINAG motorway and expressway network. The new construction of the section from Hollabrunn to Guntersdorf is planned for 2016 to 2019.

The further construction of the remaining line to the Austrian-Czech state border near Kleinhaugsdorf will take place depending on the traffic development. Construction is planned to start after 2020.

Until the expansion to the S3, the northern section from Hollabrunn to the Czech border will continue to be run as the B 303 state road. The bypasses of Hollabrunn and Jetzelsdorf are signposted as a car road . To the north of Hollabrunn, there are currently both through-roads and level crossings. The planned measures are intended to gradually expand the B 303 into a high-quality regional connection without through-town traffic.

history

The Prague street between Vienna- Floridsdorf and the border at Kleinhaugsdorf is one of the main roads that have been set by the Federal Law of July 8, 1921st Until 1938, Prager Straße was designated as B 2, after the connection with Austria , Prager Straße was part of Reichsstraße 96 until 1945 . Since 1948 this street has been called Znaimer Straße to differentiate it from Prager Straße in Upper Austria.

Today's Weinviertler Straße was known as Znaimer Straße until 1999 and was numbered B2. Until 1999 the B303 followed the course of today's Waldviertler Straße (B2). The renaming was done in order to document the planned expansion to the Weinviertel expressway (S3), as (former) federal roads in the planning and construction phase have a number that is 300 higher than their planned expressway number.

B303  Like the other former federal highways, Weinviertler Strasse was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße.
