The Hochschwab road is about 50 km long former federal highway in Styria . It connects the two villages of Gußwerk ( Mariazeller Straße B 20) and Palfau ( Erlauftal Straße B 25). The road leads through the Salzatal , past the towns of Greith in the Salzatal , Weichselboden , Gschöder (all cadastral communities of Mariazell) and Wildalpen to Erzhalden near Palfau. Other striking points are the Hochschwab ( 2277  m above sea level ) and the Hochkar  ( 1808  m above sea level ).

history

By a resolution of the Styrian state parliament on November 4, 1889, the eastern section between Gußwerk and the Prescenyklause was upgraded to a first class district road. On April 24, 1893, the Styrian state parliament decided to upgrade the remaining section of the route between Prescenyklause and Großreifling to a first class district road.

By the law of September 13, 1923, the district road Gußwerk - Großreifling was declared a rival road . In Austrian legal language, competition refers to the joint financing of a project by various institutions. In this case the federal government paid 50% of the construction costs, the state of Styria paid 30% and the districts each had to bear 20% of the construction costs within their area. The federal road administration was responsible for the construction and the settlement of the construction costs.

From January 1, 1931, the cost allocation was changed so that the districts only had to bear 5% of the costs themselves, while the state of Styria took over 45% of the construction costs. Even after April 1, 1938, this street was still run as a competing street.

The three markets street belongs since 1 January 1950 for the network of federal roads in Austria . It was later renamed.
