The Pinzgauer Straße ( B 311 ) is a state road in Austria . It leads from Bischofshofen to Zell am See , and from there via Saalfelden to Lofer .

It is the main connection from the Pongau to the Pinzgau , which otherwise only crosses the small German corner (German B 21 - Loferer Straße  B 178, in Lofer the B 311, the B 178 from St. Johann in Tirol - Wörgl im Inntal) and Hochkönig Strasse, which is full of passes and obstacles  (B 164 Bischofshofen - St. Johann iT, intersection with the B 311 in Saalfelden). This makes this route part of the most important east-west connection within Austria.

It was actually planned as a Pinzgauer Schnellstraße ( S 11 ). However, only three sections were implemented:

These sections are each expanded to four lanes. Following the deletion of the project in 1986, these sections have been incorporated into the two-lane B 311 bypass Bischofshofen became a highway declared from the driveway Bischofshofen up to the A10 node Pongau it is even considered highway (or feeder road ) and is unofficially among experts also called A10a.

The Zell am See bypass ( Schmittentunnel , 5.1 km, clearance 1996) and the Schwarzach im Pongau bypass ( Schönberg tunnel , 2.9 km, clearance 1999) are also important developments .

history

On June 15, 1836, the construction contracts for the road construction between Taxenbach and Mittersill were awarded.

The Gasteiner Straße from Bischofshofen via Lend to Badgastein and the Pinzgauer Straße from Lend via Mittersill to the Thurn Pass are among the former imperial roads that were taken over as federal roads in 1921. Until 1938 the Pinzgauer Straße was designated as B 54, after the connection of Austria the Pinzgauer Straße was led as part of the Reichsstraße  318 until 1945 .

The Mittelpinzgauer Straße between Lofer and Bruckberg was declared a federal highway by a decision of the federal government in 1937. Until 1938, Mittelpinzgauer Straße was designated as B 55, after the connection with Austria , Mittelpinzgauer Straße was part of Reichsstraße  21 until 1945 .

According to the Federal Roads Act of 1948, the entire 137 km long road from Salzburg to Pass Thurn was uniformly referred to as Salzachtal Straße (B 159).

According to the Federal Roads Act of 1971, the Pinzgauer Straße (B 311) was supposed to replace the Salzachtal Straße on the middle section between Bischofshofen and Bruckberg. The westernmost section between Bruckberg and Mittersill has been called Mittersiller Straße (B 168) since 1971 .

B311  Like the other former federal highways, Pinzgauer Strasse was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße.
