The Ötztalstraße B 186 is a state road in Austria and connects the Tyrolean Inntal with the Ötztal .

history

In the middle of the 19th century, the path into the Ötztal was only accessible as far as Längenfeld. In 1895 the Tyrolean state parliament decided to build a new road through the Ötztal into the Passeier . From 1898 onwards, with financial support from the state, the path was made into a passable road. In 1903 the Ötztalstraße to Sölden was completed, in 1911 the continuation to Zwieselstein was completed. In 1926 the first post buses drove through the Ötztal. In 1936 the section from Zwieselstein to Gurgl was opened to traffic. From 1955 to 1959 the north ramp of the Timmelsjochstraße was built.

The Ötztal Straße to Zwieselstein has been part of the network of federal highways in Austria since January 1, 1949 . Since January 1, 1973, the main road from Zwieselstein has continued to Untergurgl, where the toll road Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road begins. On April 1, 2002, the Ötztalstrasse was taken over into the state administration like the other federal roads.

On May 15, 2002 the name of the Tyrolean Parliament was changed to Ötztalstraße .

course

At the Haiming district of Ötztal-Bahnhof , the B 186 is connected to the Tiroler Straße B 171 and the Inntal motorway A 12. It leads via Oetz , Umhausen , Längenfeld and Sölden to Untergurgl , where it  crosses the Ötztaler Ache several times and runs through several tunnels or galleries . In Untergurgl it forks into Gurgler Straße (L 15) to Obergurgl and the Timmelsjoch-Hochalpenstraße , which leads to Hochgurgl and, subject to toll , to Timmelsjoch (national border with Italy ) and is a private road of Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstraßen AG.

traffic

The average daily traffic at the Ötz counting station is 14,192 vehicles, at the Umhausen counting station 8511 vehicles and at the Sölden counting station 6877 vehicles (as of 2018).

B186  Like the other former federal highways, Ötztalstraße was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße.
