history

An urn field at Forchet , excavated in 1952, proves that the Haiming area dates back to 800 BC. Was settled. The first documentary mention was made in 1269 in a deed of purchase from Meinhard II , in which he bought five farms in the area of the Petersberg court from Count Heinrich von Eschenlohe. In 1313 Haiming first appeared as a sub-community at the St. Petersberg court, the bridge over the Inn in 1320. This route was active until 1939, but new concepts had to be designed to relocate the course of the road due to the risk of falling rocks.

In 1315 a Schwaighof was mentioned in a document in Ochsengarten . One of the oldest permanent high alpine settlements in Tyrol is located in this district . In the Middle Ages , a marble-like stone was found in the area, which was used in many church buildings . One story tells that Duke Friedrich IV. Is said to have stayed for a few days in a hut in the forest below the Brandsee valley when he escaped from Constance .

From 1627 Haiming, Schlierenzau and Ochsengarten form a separate community of the Petersberg court. When the Arlbergbahn was built , a bridge was laid over the Ötztaler Ache in 1884 , followed by the Ötztal train station in 1893 .

After the annexation of Austria , the planned West Tyrolean Kraftwerke AG , a subsidiary of Alps Electric works-AG (AEW) , in the Oetztal the establishment of a chain of storage power plants . In the course of the power plant planning, numerous farmers in Haiming had to cede land to the power plant company in 1941/1942 and the forced labor camp Haiming was built on these areas . After the end of the Second World War , the Haiming camp was converted into a refugee camp. The location experienced increased media interest in February 2017, as TIWAG sold a 95,000 m² property on which the former warehouse was located to the bacon producer Handl Tyrol . In March 2017, 34 farmers are demanding the return of their former properties, as they would have been extorted from them under National Socialism.

During the Second World War , the German aviation industry built a large wind tunnel in Haiming, which was dismantled after 1945. Some material was used by him for the repair of the Brixlegg railway bridge. In 1951 the wind tunnel was set up again in Haute-Savoie .

In 1958, the Silzerberg was finally called Haimingerberg. In 1972 a road was built from Haiming to Ochsengarten . Previously, this place was only accessible via a footpath.
