history

Dormitz pilgrimage church

Dormitz, a district of Nassereith, was first mentioned in a document as "locus qui dicitur Dormundes" around 1101–1120 in a traditional note from the Rottenbuch am Inn monastery . But the evidence of settlement shows that there was a permanent settlement in the local area of Dormitz as early as 200 to 300 years before Christ, as well as a road connection via the Fernpass and the Holzleitensattel. One of the most beautiful and oldest pilgrimage churches in the Tyrolean Oberland is located here. The late Gothic church, which was redesigned in Baroque style in 1746, is consecrated to St. Nicholas . At the high altar there is a statue of Our Lady with a child from the 15th century.

The large parish church is located in the center of the village. With around 400 seats, it is one of the largest village churches in Tyrol. The church is dedicated to the Three Wise Men. Worth mentioning is the baroque onion dome, which is over 300 years old, as well as the “Holy Grave” during Holy Week . The Sisters of Mercy retirement home is also located in the village. This house was acquired by the sisters in 1887. In 2017 there were three spiritual sisters who were able to celebrate the 130th anniversary.

The Fernstein Klause was first mentioned in a document in 1288 and was the former customs station on the Fernpassstraße. The Fernsteinsee , which is privately owned, is a popular diving area . Not far from there are the Samerangersee and the Schanzlsee . A particularly popular destination is the Nassereither See, located directly behind the parish church.

In addition to tourism and a few businesses, Nassereith also functions as a commuter community .

regional customs

Schellerlauf

The carnival custom of Schellerlauf takes place every three years in Nassereith, most recently in January 2019. The main characters are the beautiful train with sweeper, scooter and Scheller, the bear with bear driver and bear piper, witches and carts. The fight between the bear and the bear driver symbolizes the fight between spring and winter, which spring (bear) ultimately wins. The figures can be seen all year round in the Carnival Museum.

The holy grave

The holy grave in Nassereith has been erected every year on Holy Week since 1861. It is one of the largest backdrop graves in Tyrol. It was last renovated in 1989. On Maundy Thursday, the Last Supper can be seen during the day and Mass. At the end of Maundy Thursday Mass, the Holy of Holies is broadcast; in the grave the image of the Lord's Supper disappears and a blood sweating Jesus appears. At the end of the Good Friday liturgy, the Holy of Holies is exposed in the grave and the body of Christ appears. It is guarded by two board figures depicting Romans. Holy Saturday shows the same picture. The celebration of Easter Vigil takes place on the evening of Holy Saturday. At the Gloria, the body of Jesus disappears into the grave and the risen Lord appears high above the grave by means of a mechanical device.

Processions and supplications

Processions take place on Corpus Christi Day, Sacred Heart Sunday and the second Sunday in September (in honor of the Mother of God and the Magi). The day before, all the bells ring at 2:00 p.m. to announce the holiday. This is done with a cannon. In the evening the music plays for the tattoo in the village center. When the Ave Maria is played at 5 a.m. on the day of the procession, some musicians gather in Hennengasse, a district of Nassereith, and play Marienlieder. The bell is rung and fired again. Many houses along the processional path are decorated with so-called majelen , fresh hardwood and conifers. Flags and figures of saints, the so-called Fargerln , are carried on the processions . Another procession takes place on the first Sunday of May in the evening. This thanksgiving procession goes back to the war year 1945, in which, due to the sparing of the village, they vowed to celebrate a thanksgiving mass every year in the pilgrimage church Dormitz with a procession from Nassereith. The prayers are also held every year on the days before Ascension Day. On the Assumption Day (August 15) the Nassereither women bring flowers and herbs to the church for consecration.

Advent and Christmas customs

When looking for a hostel during Advent, there is a statue of Our Lady in every district. She stays in a household for a day or a night, then she is brought to the neighbors, where they pray together. Afterwards you are usually well catered for. Nassereith is known for his nativity scene figures, which are not carved, as is usually the case, but burnt out of clay. They are presented annually from the feast of the Immaculate Conception to the feast of the baptism of Jesus on the "Nassereither Krippenweg". The Christmas Parade was brought back to life in 2010 after a long break. More than 80 local children take part in this parade, the girls as angels and the boys as shepherds. The Christ Child is traditionally embodied by a boy from the second grade school who receives communion in the following year. The children's procession leads through the village to the Majenbrunnen and the Postplatz, where they are received by the pastor and mayor. The ceremony is musically framed by the Nassereith band and all choirs. The fire brigade in brown uniform illuminates the action with torches. The move is always held with a market.
