Johann Jakob Staffler

Johann Jakob Staffler (born December 8, 1783 in St. Leonhard in Passeier , † December 6, 1868 in Innsbruck ) was a Tyrolean lawyer and administrative officer. He created the first extensive topography of Tyrol and Vorarlberg .

Life

Staffler attended the Benedictine grammar school in Merano and then studied law in Innsbruck. Then he was successively district judge of the Passeier valley , Ried and Sonnenburg . From 1825 he was secretary in the Innsbruck governorate .

After a request from the Gubernium of Trieste for statistical material on Innsbruck, Staffler was commissioned to create a topography of Tyrol and Vorarlberg. The resulting extensive work contained a profound description of the country in addition to the figures .

In 1848 Staffler became a member of the Tyrolean state parliament .
