Austrian Biographical Lexicon 1815–1950

The Austrian Biographical Dictionary 1815-1950 (OBL) is since 1945 by the Austrian Academy of Sciences issued Austrian National Biography .

This encyclopedia records "important personalities who have stood out in their respective fields through extraordinary achievements, were born, lived or worked in the respective Austrian state association (i.e. also in the former crown lands) and died between 1815 and 1950" (quote: ÖBL online ). By 2009 , 12 volumes and 61 deliveries with more than 17,000 biographies had been published.

The work follows on from the Biographical Lexicon of the Kaiserthums Oesterreich (BLKÖ), which was published by Constant von Wurzbach between 1856 and 1891 , and describes people in the history of the Habsburg Monarchy from 1750 to 1850.

The name register with updated additional information and the bio-bibliographical information have also been integrated into the biography portal since 2009 .

As a supplement to the printed volumes, the online edition appeared from 2011, the Austrian Biographical Lexicon from 1815 . This also includes people whose death occurred between 1950 and 2010. The access for registered users is chargeable.
