Zams is a municipality with 3398 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Upper Inn Valley in Tyrol .
The name of the inhabitants is Zammer , not Zamser . The reason is the Rhaeto-Romanic origin of the place name. This ends with the Latin nominative ending -s, which is why the genitive is formed without -s.
geography
Zams is located in a climatically favored valley basin near the confluence of the Inn and Sanna rivers, exactly on the border of the Northern Limestone Alps and the Central Alps . From time immemorial, the place has been the hub of traffic routes: this is where the roads from the Vinschgau , Engadin , Bavaria and Lake Constance area intersect . As early as the Middle Ages, tolls were required of commercial wagons on the bridge over the Inn.

- Catholic parish church Zams hl. Andreas: The landmark of Zams is the free-standing church tower . The reason for its unusual location is a fire that burned half of the village to ashes in 1911 and destroyed much of the old buildings. The tower was retained while the church was rebuilt about 50 meters away.
- Zams was and is home to many visual artists. The most famous representative is the late Franz Xaver Hauser . Others are Christine Ljubanovic (now lives in Paris) and Roland Böck . With its youth orchestra, the Zams music band sets special accents in the work of young people and plays symphonic brass music at a high level.
- Water: From time immemorial, is water for the local population important. In the district of Lötz, the old whales used to irrigate the fields and meadows are still intact. In the year of water 2003, the water world ("Zammer Lochputz") was built in Zams, which brings the important element of water to the public's attention. In 2006, the water world was expanded to include a TIWAG power plant and a Kneipp facility. A special sight is the water fountain, which shows the power of water. The Zammer landlord Josef Haueis sets accents with water and dispenses water for free. The Tiroler Oberland region is also a center for white water sports such as kayaking , rafting and canyoning .
economy
While most of the other places in the Landeck district are characterized by tourism (especially winter tourism), there is a lot of trade, craft, trade and other services in Zams. About 5% of the population still make a living from agriculture - mostly as a sideline - especially in the hamlets on the Zammerberg.
- Tourism: Zams has been marketed in the Tirol-West Tourist Office together with Landeck , Fließ , Grins , Tobadill and Stanz since 2001 . The European long-distance hiking trail E5 , which leads from Oberstdorf to the Adriatic Sea, comes via the Memminger Hütte and the Zammer Loch to Zams and then continues over the Krahberg and Venet towards Pitztal . From the exit of Zams in the direction of Imst , the ascent leads to the Steinseehütte of the OeAV , accessible as far as the Alfuz Alm. The hut is a base on the Lechtaler Höhenweg .
traffic
- Train: The town is connected to the Arlbergbahn via the Landeck-Zams train station . This is the stopping point for both international long-distance trains (Vienna, Bregenz, Zurich, Basel) and regional trains to Innsbruck . Every train stops here because from Zams you can go through the Upper Court into Switzerland and on the Reschenpass to South Tyrol.
- Road: Zams is also the end point of the A12 Inntal motorway from Kufstein and the starting point of the Arlberg Schnellstraße S 16 to Bludenz.
