history

In 1811 a hospital was built by the pastor Nikolaus Tolentino Schuler . At Nikolaus Schuler's request, Katharina Lins (Sr. Josefa Nikolina) went to Strasbourg to study at the Sœurs de la Charité de Strasbourg and returned to Zams as a Sister of Charity. In the following years her companions joined them, so that the community was officially recognized in 1826 (the order as a whole had already been approved by Emperor Franz II on September 19, 1821 ).

In 1830 and 1831 branches of the order were opened in Ried im Innkreis and Imst . 1832 by Katharina Lins on request of Count Coudenhove in Vienna- Gumpendorf a wider community founded whose patroness later Archduchess Maria Theresa was.

In 1840 a branch was established in Glurns , which moved to Gries-Bozen in 1925 and today forms the Bolzano Provincial House in South Tyrol . In 1841, at the request of the Teutonic Order, the branch in Lana was established (revival of the female branch).
In the following years, foundations were made in Troppau in the Czech Silesia (1841, also Teutonic Order), and in Hungary in Satu Mare (1842, now Romania ) and Agram ( 1845, today Croatia ).

For some time there has also been a mission branch in Moro / Peru.

The Zammer Merciful Sisters have been part of the Federation of Vincentian Communities for several years , all of which go back to the Strasbourg community.
