The Moro district is one of 9 districts in the Santa Province and is located in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district has an area of ​​359.35 km². At the 2017 census, 8,034 people lived in the Moro district. In 1993 the population was 7762, in 2007 it was 7580. The administrative center is the small town of Moro .

The Moro district is located on the western flank of the Cordillera Negra in the southeast of the Santa province, about 45 km east of the city of Chimbote . The Río Nepeña flows along the western district boundary . Its tributaries Río Larea and Río Loco flow through the Moro district in a westerly direction. The lowest point in the district is about 400  m above sea level. The 3590  m high Cerro Champaircapunta in the southeast of the district forms the highest point.

The Moro district is bordered by the Nepeña district to the west, the Caceres del Perú district to the north, the Pamparomás district ( Huaylas province ) to the east, the Quillo district ( Yungay province ) to the southeast and the Buenavista Alta and districts to the south Casma (both in the province of Casma ).
