The Samanco district is located about 23 km south of the city of Chimbote on the Pacific coast in the southwest of the Santa province. It has an approximately 28 km long coastline and extends about 11 km inland. The Río Nepeña (in the lower reaches also Río Samanco ) flows through the district in a westerly direction and flows into the sea near the city of Samanco. Most of the river water is diverted to irrigate the agricultural areas along the river. The landscape is otherwise desert. The Samanco district borders in the north with the district Nuevo Chimbote , in the northeast with the district Nepeña , in the southeast with the district Casma and in the extreme south with the district Comandante Noel (the latter two in the province Casma ).
