The Nuevo Chimbote District is one of nine districts of the province of Santa and in the region of Ancash in Peru . The Nuevo Chimbote district was founded on May 27, 1994 and separated from the existing Chimbote district . The administrative seat is the city of Buenos Aires . The district had 159,321 inhabitants at the 2017 census, 10 years earlier the population was 113,166.

The 389.8 km² district is centrally located in the province of Santa. It extends from the sea to the foothills of the Andes . Its length in the WSW-ONE direction is 38 km, the maximum width 13 km. In the north the district borders on the district Chimbote, in the south on the districts Nepeña and Samanco . A large part of the district area lies in the desert-like, arid coastal plain of northwestern Peru. Some irrigated agriculture is practiced. The Universidad Nacional del Santa University and the Aeropuerto Teniente FAP Jaime Montreuil Morales Airport are located in Buenos Aires .
