The Comandante Noel district is located in the Casma province in the Ancash region in central western Peru . The district founded on May 3, 1926 has an area of 222.76 km². The district is named after Juan Noel (1813–1854), a Peruvian naval officer. The 2017 census counted 2088 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2090, in 2007 it was 2029. The administrative center is the coastal town of Puerto Casma with 440 inhabitants (as of 2017). In the north of the district is the seaside resort of Tortugas and the island of Isla Tortuga off the coast.
Geographical location
The Comandante Noel district is located on the Pacific coast of the Casma province. It has an approximately 45 km long coastline and extends up to 11 km inland. In the area of the Río Casma and its mouth, irrigated agriculture is practiced. Otherwise there is desert vegetation in the area. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) runs along the northeastern district border from Casma to Chimbote .
In the north, the Comandante Noel district borders on the province of Santa , in the east and south on the Casma district .
