Reutte is a market town with 6918 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2020) in the Tyrolean Ausserfern and address of the authority for the entire Außerfern Bezirkshauptmannschaft Reutte and the district court Reutte . Reutte is Austria's next Tamsweg one of two local communities of district administration that is not the city were collected.

Reutte is located in a valley basin in the Tyrolean Lech Valley , which continues from the border near Pinswang in the Bavarian Alpine foothills. Larger tributaries flow into the Lech from the south and east.

history
Reutte is located on the Via Claudia Augusta from Italy to Germany . The Tyrolean Salt Road led from Hall in Tirol via the Ausserfern to Lake Constance .
On June 5, 1489, Reutte was raised to the market by Archduke Sigmund “the rich in coins” . The market privileges were confirmed and expanded by Emperor Maximilian .
Reutte of Nazism as the camp was located during the period from autumn 1944 until the war ended in 1945 Plansee Breitenwang of the Dachau concentration camp . The 44th Infantry Division and the 10th Armored Division of the American troops liberated the supposed " Alpine fortress " from the north near Vils at the end of April 1945 .
In 2003 a fragment of the Neuschwanstein meteorite was found near Reutte .

Reutte was the site of a Franciscan monastery until August 2014 . The Franciscan order had been active in Reutte since 1628. In addition to the Catholic parish , Reutte also has a Protestant parish and a Muslim parish, which is the second largest religious community in the town.

The Reutte coat of arms - three fir trees on three hills - stands for the wealth of forests in the region and the origin of the name Reutte, which is derived from "clearing". The three hills represent the landscape; the red-white-red stripes show that it belongs to Tyrol and Austria.

Reutte is an administrative and school center and houses, among other things, the district administration .
economy
Most of the employees work in the service sector (administration, schools, tourism), in addition to the metal and textile industry, wood and agriculture and the electricity industry.
The oldest large industrial settlements in Reutte are the Reutte textile works of Linz Textil AG, formerly Reuttener Textilwerke AG (RTW), the beginnings of which were located in courtyards for flax production in the 18th century .
The Lech was later used to generate energy for tanneries and fabric dyeing works. In the middle of the 20th century, more than 400 people found work in the Reutten textile works. In January 2008 it was announced in an article in the Tiroler Tageszeitung that the weaving mill was the only remaining part of the old RTW to be closed at the end of June 2008.
Plansee AG, with around 2000 employees in Reutte and around 5000 employees worldwide, is a central component of Reutte's economy and international flagship . Plansee AG, founded in 1921, is the world market leader in the field of refractory materials and powder metallurgy , whose areas of application range from flat screen technologies and fluorescent components made of tungsten to space technology.
Raiffeisenbank Reutte is also based in Reutte .
Since March 2002 there has been a base (station "RK-2") of the ARA air ambulance at the Reutte district hospital .
traffic
Reutte is connected to the Fernpass in a southerly direction via the Fernpassstraße (B179) , which as a bypass leads past Reutte to the east. When Austria joined the EU in 1995, Reutte had new opportunities to cooperate with the neighboring German Allgäu . The German A7 motorway was extended to the Füssen border tunnel in 2009 ; Reutte is thus connected to Germany via the B179 in a northerly direction. The Lechtalstraße (B198) leads to the west in the direction of Warth.
Reutte has a connection to the rail network through the Ausserfernbahn . The route leads from Kempten (Allgäu), around 50 km to the north, via Reutte to Garmisch-Partenkirchen , with a change in Reutte being necessary. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the trains have been combined with the RB line from Mittenwald / Innsbruck since March 15, 2015 and carried on to Munich ( wing ). Passenger traffic has been operated by Deutsche Bahn since 2001 .

- Houses in the center: in the center there are worth seeing houses with facade paintings by the Reutten painter Johann Jakob Zeiller . The facade fronts of the houses in the Reutten district of Obermarkt do not form a uniform front, but rather stand individually at an angle to the street, which is a regional specialty.

Sports
SV Reutte is based in Reutte. With its 17 branches it is the largest sports club in the district. The club is best known for its football department, which at times played in the fourth-class Tyrolean league, as well as the successful athletics department. The home games are played in Reutten's Drei-Tannen-Stadion, which is also used for athletics competitions and also offers the opportunity for beach volleyball on two fields.
