Paul Ernst (born September 11, 1935 in Reutte ) is a former Austrian biathlete .

When Ernst came to the B-Gendarmerie in 1954 , he first began to practice cross-country skiing competitively. In 1956 and 1957 he achieved two podium places with the relay at the Austrian State Championships. In 1957 he moved to the customs station and started biathlon. At the first biathlon world championship in 1958 in Saalfelden , Ernst finished as the second-best Austrian in 17th place in the individual and was fifth in the unofficial relay competition. Because of his professional and personal obligations - he was a father three times by 1963 - he had little time for sport in the years that followed. In the run-up to the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , he began again with increased training, but did not reach the goal in the Olympic decision after a ski break. This was followed by participation in the 1966 biathlon world championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In the individual, he finished 44th and was eighth with Horst Schneider , Walter Müller and Adolf Scherwitzl in the relay competition, which was held for the first time as part of the official competition. The next year he finished 13th with the relay at the Biathlon World Championships in 1967 in Altenberg . He did not start in the individual. The last major event for Paul Ernst was the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble . He finished the individual in 40th place and was 11th in the relay competition with Scherwitzl, Schneider and Franz Vetter .
