The 7th Biathlon World Championships were in 1966 in the German Garmisch-Partenkirchen instead. The relay race over 4 × 7.5 km was included in the official world championship program. The GDR team left before the start of the competitions after the police had prohibited them from wearing the GDR state emblem on their competition clothing.
