The 48th  Biathlon World Championships were held from 2 to 13 March 2016 Norwegian Oslo instead.

In the summer of 2012, the Norwegian capital won the bid to host the world championships without any opponents. After 1986 and 2000, the world championships were held for the third time in the sports facilities at Holmenkollen .

Oslo also took over the organization of some world championship competitions as part of the World Cup in 1990 and 1999 , which could not be carried out due to the weather conditions in Minsk or in Kontiolahti . In 2002 - also as part of the World Cup races - a mass start world championship was held, as these competitions were not part of the 2002 Winter Olympics program at the time .

As in the previous year, all World Cup disciplines were held with the exception of the single mixed relay.

Venues

The competitions took place in the biathlon stadium on Holmenkollen . After renovations in 2011, the system was improved again for the world championships. The main building was rebuilt and expanded, among other things, to improve the sanitary facilities and to increase the number of permanently installed wax cabins. Additional, temporarily installed grandstands and a VIP area increased the spectator capacity from 7,500 to 17,500 people. With the additional standing room along the route, up to 25,000 spectators were expected per day.

The opening ceremony and medal award ceremony took place in Oslo city center.
