Serafin Wiestner (born July 20, 1990 in Ilanz ) is a Swiss biathlete .

Career

Serafin Wiestner lives in Trin-Mulin and starts for SC Trin . The forester started biathlon in 2004 and is a member of the Swiss Border Guard . He contested his first international race in 2006 in the European Junior Cup . The first international championships were the 2008 Junior World Championships in Ruhpolding . In Bavaria, the Swiss finished 36th in the individual, 31st in the sprint, 57th in the pursuit and with Benjamin Weger and Mario Dolder 11th in the Swiss relay. In 2009 the Junior World Championships followed in Canmore , where he was 43rd of the individual, 39th of the sprint and 47th of the pursuit. The 2010 Junior World Championships followed in Torsby . In the individual, he finished 53rd, was 16th in the sprint and 24th in the pursuit. In Otepää he took part in the junior races for the first time in European championships and was 43rd in the individual, 28th in the sprint and 25th in the pursuit. Junior World Championships 2011 he took part in Nové Město na Moravě for the fourth and last time in a Junior World Championship and reached the ranks 48 in the individual, 5 in the sprint, 10 in the pursuit and with Pascal Wolf , Gaspard Cuenot and Mario Dolder 14 in the relay race. This was followed by the junior races of the European Championships in Ridnaun , where he was 32nd in the sprint, 16th in the pursuit, 15th in the individual and fifth in the mixed relay race with Irene Cadurisch , Stephanie Schnydrig and Mario Dolder.

At the second station of the 2009/10 season , Wiestner made his debut in Ridnaun in the IBU Cup and finished 70th in a sprint. In Nové Město na Moravě he won points for the first time in the following season as 25th. In Forni Avoltri in 2012 he achieved his best result in the racing series as 20th of an individual. The first international men's championship was the 2013 European Championships in Bansko . Wiestner came 42nd in the individual, 25th in the sprint and 27th in the pursuit. The debut in the biathlon world cup followed in 2014 . In Oberhof he was 47 in his first sprint. After only two World Cup races, he was nominated for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , where he was 40th in the sprint and 57th in the pursuit. After the games, Wiestner won his first World Cup points in Kontiolahti as the 29th of a sprint. In 2015 he improved his best performance in Oberhof to a 28th place in the sprint.

Nationally, Wiestner won bronze in the sprint races behind Simon Morscher and Mario Dolder at the Swiss youth and junior championships in 2006 , and again third in the sprint in 2007 behind Benjamin Weger and Mario Dolder, and in 2010 he won the runner-up title behind Dolder in the sprint and pursuit. In 2011 he won the runner-up in his age group behind Mario Dolder and ahead of Gaspard Cuenot in the sprint race. In 2012 he won the overall ranking of the RWS Swiss Cup for the men in the 2011/2012 season.
