Sochi 2014

At the XXIII. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , eleven biathlon competitions were held. The venue was the Alpensia Biathlon Center in the Alpensia Resort winter sports center . The 2009 biathlon world championships and one world cup each in winter 2008/09 and winter 2016/17 had already been held there . Up to 7500 spectators could watch the biathlon competitions on site.

The competitions were not held as part of the 2017/18 World Cup , so the results of the Olympic Games were not included in the World Cup ratings. As in 2014 in Sochi all disciplines of the World Championships were held in Pyeongchang. The single-mixed relay , which was also part of the competition program of the World Cup and the European Championships , was not on the program.

Starting odds

There were a total of 230 quota places. The maximum number of athletes per nation in biathlon competitions at the Olympic Games was based on the starting quotas in the Biathlon World Cup . The 20 best national associations of the previous year received four starting places per sprint and individual race, the associations in places 21 and 22 received two starting places. The IOC was able to award six wildcards to other nations that did not have any quota places. These wildcards were limited to two per nation. The organizing nation was allowed to provide at least one athlete or relay regardless of a quota position reached or a wildcard.
