Career

Tero Seppälä started in the IBU Cup for the first time in 2015 and took part in two races in the 2015/16 season. He took part in the Junior World Championships the previous season and finished fourth in the relay. In the sprint race he achieved his best individual result with an 18th place. At the Junior World Championships in 2016 he achieved his best placement in individual with a 34th place. With the Finnish relay, Seppälä was eighth. In the 2016/17 season he took part in the IBU Cup races again, but only achieved points once. In the second half of the season he started four times in the World Cup and took part in the World Championships and the Junior World Championships . At the Junior World Championships he reached eighth place in the individual and fifth place in the relay.

In the 2017/18 season he achieved his first World Cup points with a 24th place. During the rest of the season, Seppälä was among the top 40 athletes three times. He finished the season in 61st place overall.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang , he achieved his best results so far in a race at World Cup level. In the sprint he was 20th and in the subsequent pursuit 25th. After a 76th place in the individual , he was the last athlete to qualify for his first mass start . In this he reached the 21st place. He took part in the mixed relay race with Laura Toivanen , Kaisa Mäkäräinen and Olli Hiidensalo and came in sixth. This was the best result of a Finnish mixed relay since sixth place at the 2009 World Championships in Pyeongchang. In the very first race of the 2018/19 World Cup , the result  increased again with 5th place in the mixed relay in Pokljuka . It was the best result of a Finnish mixed relay since the competition was launched. The same season ran as at the 2018 Olympic Games. Only Laura Toivanen was replaced by Mari Eder . Even in the individual races, he was always able to place between places 35 and 50 in the first trimester (with the exception of the sprint in Pokljuka with position 94).

Tero Seppälä is a left shooter and his father Timo Seppälä was also a biathlete.
