Pyeongchang ( dt. Literally means "peace and prosperity", IPA : [pʰjʌŋtɕʰaŋ] ) is a district (Pyeongchang- gun ) with 43,706 inhabitants in the South Korean province of Gangwon-do and an identically-place (Pyeongchang- eup ) in it with 9940 inhabitants. The district was the venue for the 2018 Winter Olympics .

Geographical location

Pyeongchang is located around 130 km east of the capital Seoul in the Taebaek Mountains . This is the largest mountain range on the Korean Peninsula , it extends over large parts of the east coast. At 37 ° north latitude , Pyeongchang is roughly on the geographical latitude of Sicily .

The Namhangang River, the southern branch of the Hangang , has its source in the circle.

Attractions

Pagoda in Woljeongsa Temple

Part of the Odaesan National Park is in the territory of the county. Tourist attractions include the nine-story octagonal stone pagoda in Woljeongsa Temple, which is in the northern Daegwallyeong community. It is believed that the pagoda was built in the 10th century.

Sports

Mount Odaesan is a well-known national ski area and there are several golf courses. Furthermore, that is football - Fifth division side Pyeongchang FC in the town home. The club plays its home games at Pyeongchang Stadium .
