Sigbjørn fruit fields
Sigbjørn Obstfelder (born November 21, 1866 in Stavanger , † July 29, 1900 in Copenhagen ) was a Norwegian writer and poet . He studied philology and civil engineering in Kristiania ( Oslo ). In the years 1890–91 he worked as a civil engineer in the USA . He only found his true calling later when he decided to spend his life hiking through Scandinavia . Under the influence of the French symbolists and Søren Kierkegaardsarticulated fruit fields in the rhythmically suggestive verses of his early "Digte" of existential fear. His feeling to have come to a "wrong planet" made him look for mystical driving forces of existence. This is how many of his dark works came about. Rainer Maria Rilke , among others, resorted to motifs and problems from the orchards' poems .
