- 533 : The Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I publishes a legal collection that comes into force on December 30th. This is later given the name Corpus iuris civilis .
- 1272 : After the death of Heinrich III. five days earlier, his son Edward becomes the new King of England in absentia .
