Felice Bonetto (born June 9, 1903 in Manerbio near Brescia , † November 21, 1953 in Silao , Mexico ) was an Italian racing driver .
Career
Bonetto drove sports car races as early as the 1930s , but he only came into the limelight after the Second World War , with cars from the brands Cisitalia and Ferrari , with which he was second in the 1949 Mille Miglia .
In the Formula 1 World Championship in 1951, after Luigi Fagioli's resignation , Bonetto took his place at Alfa Romeo and achieved third place in Italy . In 1952 and 1953 he drove a Maserati and also came third again in the 1953 Dutch Grand Prix .
Felice Bonetto also competed in sports car races. He achieved his greatest success in 1952 when he won the Targa Florio . The sports cars also became his undoing. At the end of 1953 he had a fatal accident at the Mexican endurance race Carrera Panamericana .
