In the Formula 1 World Championship in 1951, after Luigi Fagioli's resignation , Bonetto took his place at Alfa Romeo and achieved third place in Italy . In 1952 and 1953 he drove a Maserati and also came third again in the 1953 Dutch Grand Prix .
