The 1950 British Grand Prix took place on May 13th at the Silverstone Circuit in Silverstone and was the first race of the 1950 World Championship . It was a Saturday race because the English King George VI. his Sunday rest was "sacred". The race also had the FIA title of honor European Grand Prix .
Race course
Farina was the fastest in qualifying and was on pole and his 3 teammates next to him on the front row. The second row consisted of Prince Bira in his Maserati and the two works cars from Talbot-Lago . Felice Bonetto was the only driver who did not take part in the qualification and therefore did not qualify for the race. On May 13th, 21 drivers from a total of 9 countries came to the old Silverstone Airport. The host of the first Formula 1 race was represented by 9 drivers. The race attracted 200,000 spectators. At the start of the race Farina took the lead, closely followed by Fagioli and Fangio . In the first few laps the lead changed several times, which indicated from the start that it would be an entertaining race. Fangio retired with engine failure and Farina extended his lead to 2.5 seconds ahead of Fagioli. Much to the delight of his home crowd, Parnell stayed in second place despite a collision with a rabbit during the race. The next challenger was Giraud-Cabantous , who was two laps behind after Bira had to retire due to fuel problems. At the top nothing changed and Farina won the first Formula 1 race with a lead of 2.6 seconds over Fagioli and Parnell.
