The 1967 British Grand Prix took place on July 15 at Silverstone and was the sixth race of the 1967 World Automobile Championship .
Reports
background
Around two weeks after both Lotus factory cars were eliminated from the front of the field during the French Grand Prix due to an identical transmission problem , the team brought appropriate modifications to Silverstone in order to prevent this incident from happening again. It was now clear to the experts that the Lotus 49 was actually the best car in the field, but had not been able to keep up with the successes of the reliable Brabham Repco due to various technical difficulties .
Formula 2 driver Alan Rees completed his first and only outing in a Formula 1 racing car this weekend as a guest driver at the wheel of a third works Cooper .
Bob Anderson started one last time in a Formula 1 race. A month later he had a fatal accident during test drives on this route.
training
In training, where reliability plays a minor role, Jim Clark and Graham Hill once again impressively demonstrated the class of the Lotus-Ford. On his fastest training lap, Clark was around a second faster than the two Brabham of Jack Brabham and Denis Hulme , with whom he and Hill shared the front row of four cars.
The second row was formed by Dan Gurney in his self-made Eagle T1G , Chris Amon in a Ferrari 312 and John Surtees in a Honda . This was followed by the two works cooperators of Jochen Rindt and Pedro Rodríguez as well as Bruce McLaren in the second Eagle and Mike Spence in the fastest BRM
run
After Hill damaged his Lotus during training, extensive repairs took place overnight, which were mastered in time for the start.
Clark took the lead over Hill. However, this was already overtaken by Brabham on the second lap, while Clark was able to pull away. Meanwhile, it took Hulme nine laps to return to his starting position, fourth place, after a failed start.
Over the next few laps, Hill fought his way past Brabham again. A little later, Hulme also succeeded, who then took up the pursuit of the two Lotus at the top.
In the 26th lap Hill was able to take the lead and defend it until the 55th lap, before he had to visit the pits because of a suspension damage and fell back. Ten laps later, he was finally eliminated from the race due to an engine failure.
Clark won ahead of Hulme and Amon, who had passed Brabham in the last few laps.
