At the British Grand Prix, Pirelli made the tire compounds P Zero Hard (orange) and P Zero Medium (white) available to the drivers , as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue) for wet conditions .

There were two DRS zones. The first zone began 30 m after Aintree Corner , the measuring point is 25 m before Village Corner . The second DRS zone was still on Hangar Straight , 55 m after the chapel . Compared to the previous year, however, the measuring point was moved to the entrance of the Maggotts .

Force India entered this race for the first time with the completely revised version of the Force India VJM08 .

Marcus Ericsson (five), Pastor Maldonado , Sergio Pérez (four each), Vettel (three), Jenson Button , Romain Grosjean , Nico Hülkenberg , Roberto Merhi and Max Verstappen (two each) went into the race weekend with penalty points.

With Fernando Alonso , Hamilton (twice each), Kimi Räikkönen , Vettel and Rosberg (once each), five former winners competed in this Grand Prix.

Tony Scott Andrews (GBR), Andrew Mallalieu ( BAR ), Nigel Mansell (GBR) and Lars Österlind (SWE) acted as race stewards.

training

In the first free practice, Rosberg drove the fastest lap with 1: 34.274 minutes, ahead of Hamilton and Verstappen. After only four laps, Rosberg had to park his car due to hydraulic damage. After his gearbox was changed, he was able to get back on track five minutes before the end of practice.

Susie Wolff drove Valtteri Bottas's Williams . In addition, Jolyon Palmer drove the Lotus from Grosjean and Raffaele Marciello drove the Sauber from Ericsson.

In the second free practice, Rosberg again set the fastest time in 1: 34.155 minutes ahead of Raikkonen and Vettel.

In the third free practice, which took place on Saturday morning, Hamilton was ahead of Rosberg and Raikkonen with a time of 1: 32.917 minutes.

Qualifying

The qualifying consisted of three parts with a net running time of 45 minutes. In the first qualifying segment (Q1), the drivers had 18 minutes to qualify for the race. All drivers who achieved a time in the first section that was a maximum of 107 percent of the fastest lap time qualified for the Grand Prix. The best 15 drivers reached the next part. Raikkonen was fastest. The two Marussia and McLaren drivers and Felipe Nasr were eliminated.

The second qualifying segment (Q2) lasted 15 minutes. Rosberg was the fastest. Ericsson, the Lotus pilots, Verstappen and Pérez were eliminated.

The final section lasted twelve minutes, during which the first ten starting positions were assigned. Hamilton secured pole position with a time of 1: 32.248 minutes in front of Rosberg and Felipe Massa . Hamilton achieved his eighth pole position this season.

run

The race lasted 52 laps. Nasr was unable to take part in the race due to a gearbox failure in his car.

Massa had the best start and was able to take the lead. Bottas also tried to get past both Mercedes, but then had to admit defeat to Hamilton. In the second corner there was an accident between the two Lotus. While the race was over for Grosjean immediately, Maldonado had to give up a little later. As a result of this collision, the McLaren collided. Alonso needed a new nose and then drove on. Button's race, on the other hand, ended immediately. To clean up after the accidents, there was a safety car phase that lasted until the end of the third lap. Hamilton tried to overtake Massa after releasing, but missed the braking point and was overtaken by Bottas instead. Max Verstappen slipped into the gravel and was eliminated.

On laps 14 and 15, the Ferrari headed for the pit relatively early. At the front, Massa kept his Williams teammate behind, who made the quicker impression of both. Hamilton was the first of the leading quartet to change tires at the end of the 19th lap. With this undercut he passed Massa, who together with Rosberg turned off to the service one lap later. After their stops, they fought a duel in the pits, in which Massa stayed in front. One lap later, Bottas also came in, who then took third place between Massa and Rosberg.

After a virtual safety car phase due to Sainz's car stalling, the rain began on lap 35. However, only on part of the route, which meant that Massa and Bottas were now significantly slower on the wet part of the route than the Rosberg behind them. As a result, he overtook Bottas on lap 39 in the wet part, while he also passed Massa there two laps later. Raikkönen was the first to switch to intermediates, albeit too early.

Later, other teams did the same. At the end of lap 43, Hamilton and Vettel switched. One lap also came Rosberg and both Williams. With his earlier stop, Vettel was able to take third place on the podium.

Hamilton won the race ahead of Rosberg and Vettel. It was the fifth win for Hamilton and the sixth one-two for Mercedes this season. Hamilton led a Grand Prix in this race for the 18th time in a row, beating Jackie Stewart's record . Vettel took his sixth podium this season. The top 10 were completed by Massa, Bottas, Daniil Kwjat , Hülkenberg, Räikkönen, Pérez and Alonso. It was Alonso's first point in 2015 and his first point as a McLaren driver since the 2007 Brazilian Grand Prix .

In the drivers 'and constructors' world championships, the first three positions remained unchanged.
