Luíz Felipe de Oliveira Nasr [ fiˈlipi ˈnasɐ ] (born August 21, 1992 in Brasília ) is a Brazilian automobile racing driver . He won the European Formula BMW championship title in 2009 and the British Formula 3 championship in 2011 . From 2012 to 2014 he started in the GP2 series . Third place overall in 2014 was his best overall placement. In 2015 and 2016 , Nasr competed in Formula 1 for Sauber .
Career
Like most motorsport enthusiasts , Nasr began his career in karting , where he was active from 2000 to 2007. He won several championship titles in Brazil. In 2008 he switched to formula racing and competed in two American Formula BMW races . He was third on the podium in his second race and, although he had only started two races, was tenth in the overall standings. In 2009 Nasr moved to Europe and competed for EuroInternational in the European Formula BMW. Nasr dominated the season in an impressive manner, finishing first or second in 14 of 16 races. At the end of the season he won the championship title by over 100 points over his teammate Daniel Juncadella . He also took part in three races of the Asian Formula BMW as a guest starter and finished two in first place.
2010 Nasr moved to Raikkonen Robertson Racing in the British Formula 3 Championship . With a win, he finished fifth overall as the best driver on his team. Nasr's second season in the British Formula 3 Championship was for Carlin in 2011 . He won 7 of 30 races and was champion with 318 to 237 points ahead of his teammate Kevin Magnussen . Two events before the end of the season he was already the champion. After Jaime Alguersuari , Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne, Nasr is the fourth Carlin driver in a row to become British Formula 3 champion. At this year's Macau Grand Prix he finished second.
In early 2012 took Nasr for Michael Shank Racing in the 24 Hours of Daytona in part. His performance in British Formula 3 gave him the opportunity to start. He set the fastest time in each of his first test drives. In the race he reached third place together with his teammates Jorge Goncalvez , Michael McDowell and Gustavo Yacamán . He then took part in the GP2 series for DAMS in the 2012 season. On his first race weekend he already achieved a podium finish with a third place. With a total of four podium finishes, he reached tenth place in the drivers' championship. Following the GP2 season, Nasr made guest starts for Carlin in the 2012 Formula 3 Euro Series and took part in the Macau Grand Prix . In 2013, Nasr started again in the Daytona 24-hour race. His teammates at Action Express Racing included fellow countrymen Christian Fittipaldi and Nelson Piquet jr. They reached eighth place in the overall classification. His main focus in 2013 was again on the GP2 series, in which he returned to Carlin. Already at the season opener he achieved a podium finish with a second place. On the first four race weekends he finished all races in the top four. In Singapore Nasr led the main race for a long time, but had to admit defeat to his team-mate Jolyon Palmer in the closing stages and finished second for the fourth time of the season. Nasr was on the podium six times, but - unlike his team-mate - he did not manage to win. In the overall standings, Nasr improved to fourth place and beat Palmer internally with 154 to 119 points. In 2014 , Nasr stayed with Carlin in the GP2 series. He scored his first victory in his 50th GP2 race in Barcelona . He won other races in Spielberg , Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps . With ten podium finishes, Nasr finished the season in third place overall. Within the team, he prevailed against Julian Leal with 224 to 68 points . Nasr was also a test driver for the Williams Formula 1 racing team . In this role he took part in some free trainings.
In 2015 , Nasr joined Sauber as a regular driver in Formula 1 . He brought his long-time sponsor, Banco do Brasil , to the racing team as a sponsor and chose 12 as his starting number. Nasr scored points right in his first race in Australia with fifth place. This made the best debut for a Brazilian and a Sauber driver. It was his best result of the season. He finished his debut year in 13th place in the world championship and internally won against Marcus Ericsson with 27 to 9 points .
In 2016 , Nasr and Ericsson stayed with Sauber. At his home race in Brazil , Nasr scored the only points for Sauber of the season in ninth place. In the penultimate race, this means that Sauber moved up to tenth place in the constructors' championship. On points he prevailed with 2 to 0 points against Ericsson; after placements he was defeated by Ericsson 12 to 8. The season ended Nasr in 17th place.
In February 2019, Dragon Racing announced that it had signed Nasr as a regular driver for the 2018/19 FIA Formula E Championship with immediate effect . Nasr made his debut at the Mexico City E-Prix and replaced Maximilian Günther . However, he took over the cockpit again after only three races. Nasr remained without points and finished 24th in the drivers' championship at the end of the season.
Others
His uncle Amir and his father Samir Nasr have been running a successful racing team with Amir Nasr Racing for 30 years . It currently competes in the Stock Car Brasil and competed in the South American Formula 3 Championship up to and including 2008 , where it won the team title four times and the drivers' title in 2000 and 2001.
Since the beginning of 2010, Nasr has been looked after by Robertson Management , the organization that Kimi Raikkonen manages.
He is in a relationship with the Brazilian student Giulia Maria Testoni.
