The Hungaroring is a racing - race track in Hungary . It is located on the outskirts of the municipality of Mogyoród , northeast of Budapest and 9 km as the crow flies or by foot west of Gödöllő . Formula 1 has been a regular guest there since 1986 as part of the Hungarian Grand Prix . The 1986 race was the first Cold War GP to be held in a communist country. In the course of the new construction of the line in 1985 by the Hungarian state for the equivalent of around 15 million DM (7.67 million euros), an adventure park was built ( Hungaroring Adventure Park ).
The route is located directly on the M3 motorway and around 20 km from the center of Budapest. Located in a valley, 80 percent of the route can be seen from around 50 hectares of grandstands. Due to this ideal location, the Hungaroring is often referred to as a flat plate , because the spectators sit on its edge while they watch the race. The track is known as a demanding track that offers few good overtaking opportunities.
Formula 1 will be in Hungary until at least 2026.
In 2014 , a DTM race was also held on the Hungaroring.

Route in detail
- In 1986 the line with a length of 4013.786 m was handed over.
- In 1989 , a small correction was made for the Formula 1 race: The route was shortened by 45 m because a combination of bends had been cut in order to create another overtaking opportunity and make the route faster.
- In 1997 , the renovation of the start and finish straight brought the route back a few meters to 3,982 m. The smallest radius at this time was 20 m, the largest was 400 m. The length of the start-finish straight was 700 m, which means that speeds of over 300 km / h could be achieved. The width of the race track in the start and finish straight was 15 m, at other points the width was reduced to 10 and 11 m respectively. The subsoil consisted of a 20 cm high layer of gravel on which 20 cm concrete was applied. The road surface on top consisted of a 3–5 cm thick layer of asphalt . The relative height difference between the lowest and highest point of the racetrack was 36 m. The largest increase was 6.4%, the largest gradient was 6.7%.
- In 2003 , extensive reconstruction work was carried out with the approval of the FIA , the FOM and the Hungarian state authorities (MNASZ). The start-finish straight was extended by 202 m, increasing the length of the route to 4,383.08 m.
