Brainerd International Raceway
The Brainerd International Raceway is a motorsport racetrack approximately ten kilometers northwest of Brainerd , Minnesota in the United States of America .
The street course is 4,989 meters long, has ten curves and is driven clockwise . The area also includes a go- kart track and a drag racing track , on which the NHRA Nationals currently take place every year.
history
The Brainerd International Raceway opened in 1963 as the Donnybrooke Speedway . In 1973 it got its current name after a change of ownership.
In 1969 the track hosted two USAC Indy Car series races , won by Gordon Johncock and Dan Gurney . In the 1970s and 1980s, races for numerous national racing series, such as the CanAm , the IMSA and the Trans-Am series as well as the Formula 5000, took place on the street circuit.
Between 1989 and 1991 the track hosted the US race for the Superbike World Championship .
