The Irwindale Event Center (formerly Toyota Speedway at Irwindale ) is a motorsport facility in Irwindale , California that consists of two paved ovals and a dragster track . One oval is 0.53 kilometers (0.33 miles) long and the other, larger, 0.8 kilometers (0.5 miles) long. The motorsport facility is mainly used for NASCAR and USAC races.

The Toyota All-Star Showdown , a special NASCAR event, has been held on the larger oval since 2003 . The best drivers from the regional NASCAR series take part in the Toyota All-Star Showdown, including the NASCAR Camping World West Series . But the champions of the Canadian NASCAR Championship and Mexican NASCAR Championship are also eligible. The Irwindale Speedway is also the venue for the Turkey Night races, in which well-known pilots such as Tony Stewart and Jason Leffler took part.

The 0.2-kilometer dragster track was opened in 2003 and is accessible to street-legal cars. In this way, the track operators prevent illegal street races that have previously existed in the area, as no such facility existed yet.

The track is also the venue for a D1 Grand Prix race, a drift race. In 2003 such a race took place for the first time in Irwindale, which was followed by 10,000 spectators along the route. Since the interest was so great, D1 Grand Prix races have been held on the track every February since then. In addition, the final of another US drift racing series, Formula D , has been held at Irwindale Speedway since then.

In 2003, Cliff Lett set a new speed record for radio-controlled model cars on the facility . His car reached a speed of 173.63 km / h.

Trivia

The episode Stock Car Races , the tenth episode of the first season of Malcolm in the Middle , was filmed largely on Irwindale Speedway .
