The Portland International Raceway is a permanent race track in Portland , Oregon . It was built on the site where Vanport was destroyed by a flood on May 30, 1948 . The first race took place in 1960. From 1984 to 2007 the Grand Prix of Portland the Champ Car was held here. The American Le Mans Series also took place here from 1999 to 2006 .

The track was built in two variants, a 1.92 mile street course without a “festival” chicane and a 1.964 mile street course with a “festival”.
